So this day marks beginning of my "audiophiology" with getting Sennheiser HD 228 black beauties!!
As it is Sennheiser , the world class makers of headphones I don't have much to say about these cute n stunning extremely desirable head-fi phones :) Lemme dissect these head-turners. As soon as I got them, I tried to open them up from the hard case in which they come. First I thought there shall be some kinda opening to undress these beauties easily from the case. But to my surprise I was amazed that on the cover itself, I happened to see that to open these headphones you have to use scissors to cut the hard cover!!. Now that was something which was too strange from Sennheiser guys. I still wonder if a better case which is easily removable should have been much much better considering the excitement of customers who are in a hurry to open them up!!
Anyways after cutting these covers, I finally touched these gorgeous piece of perfection.
Apart from being light weight, they had stunning looks that would make you go WOW instantly. There is a smooth head pad on the top that surely gives it five stars as far as comfort level is concerned. Also the ear pads fit perfectly on your ears. The headphones are pretty adjustable to your skull size. It comes with a stereo 3.5mm jack. The stereo wire has a length of 1.4m which is more than sufficient. One of the very keen features is that usual headphones have two wires running from both the earpads. But Sennheiser outstands as HD228 has only one wire coming out of one of the earpads only. Now this is really innovative and increases your comfort when travelling.
Now its time to reveal the sound quality of these beauties :). As these are optimized for the ipod, I decided to couple them with my Ipod Touch.They are definitely bass explosives and are very clear with mid and high range frequency with sensitivity of 110db !! Moreover they are really noise reducing headphones which completely takes you into isolation from the ambient noise!.Considering its frequency range 18 - 22000 Hz I could feel new instruments being used in almost all the songs I heard(for my old headphones had limited frequency range)
The headphones clearly stands ahead in its rich and punchy bass. You can feel the thump :).
One of the cons about these are that they leak sound. I mean a person near you can definitely make out which song is being heard by you!!
So guys its worth trying HD 228 coz they are gonna really blow you away.
Some tips to use this headphones so that you really fall in love with these ladies :)
1. Keep the headphones a little back on your head.
2. Try to make the headphone drivers a bit stressed by running for some 50 hours,
after that it shall deliver even better.
3. There is an oval foam inside the ear pads, you can easily remove them to enjoy even much more deeper bass. You can fit these foams again. So its worth to try :)
BOTTOM LINE
For all those who wanna listen high quality audio for long hours without getting tired this one is for you. The tight and thump bass along with crisp and clear mid and high range shall make you fall in love with them. Make sure you have scissors to undress these darlings from the company cover :)
